Description
Alina Petrenko is a London-based freelance illustrator, printmaker and designer. Alina was born and spent her early life beyond the rapids of the River Dnieper in Southern Ukraine, a land known for its beauty and generosity, as well as for its rich history, especially that of the Zaporozhian Cossacks. Alina’s work is infused with her childhood memories, nature, folklore and her love of storytelling.
Alina studied illustration and printmaking at Camberwell College of Arts, University of the Arts London, graduating with a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design in July 2011.
Alina perceives each new project as a new challenge. Her creative process involves thorough subject research and experimentation with a range of materials and techniques. She uses a combination of traditional freehand and digital drawing, collage and printmaking skills to visually communicate her ideas.
In July 2010 Alina was fortunate to win the first prize in the Brookfield Europe Architect’s Wall-Design Competition for her artwork 'Elephant & Castle Map', which has been reproduced and displayed in large format on the Strata SE1 building at Elephant & Castle, London. Moreover, she has been recently commissioned to produce a range of designs for cushions, t-shirts and postcards.
For her personal body of work 'Fabulas' she has handcrafted limited editions of embellished homeware, furniture and gift products, where she explores the subject of morality and the relationship between the individual’s inner and outer worlds, duality and harmony.
Alina is currently working on a new collection of homewares and on her first range of handcrafted toys. Moreover, she is available for commissions and commercial work and is open to collaborative projects.
