Leo Richardson
BA (Hons) Ceramic Design 2011
Central Saint Martins College of Arts & Design
Description
INSIDE-OUT
The work explores ideas and opportunities presented by the relationship between Art and Science. Leo is developing studies of her own interpretation of the human cells, as the basis for an exploration to reveal normally hidden truths, making unseen entities visible and turning the inside-out.
The theme of revealing what is normally hidden is interesting to her, so there is a sense in the work of exposing the inner body's hidden truths and beauty.
Additionally the theme of how beauty can appear in imperfection is explored in her ceramic production of cells, and cracks and faults which appear in the firing process are exploited and transformed to accentuate each individual cell's uniqueness and aura. Thus, while the cells are broadly similar, their differences are deliberately highlighted.
