Description
CHIMERA
The inspiration for this collection was derived from witnessing birds and flowers in their environmental state and an exhibition of the Imperial Chinese Robes from the Forbidden City at The Victoria and Albert Museum. My designs will reflect an integration of these colour palettes (birds and wild flowers) while utilising the natural fabrics endemic to my narrative.
History has taught us that every culture has there own mythical creatures, which are made legendary through their tales. By drawing on these cultural narratives and researching mythical creatures that are made up of more than one animal (Chimera) I will create my own mythical creatures and story based on the natural juxtaposition of birds and flowers to enliven my project. I will utilise scale and proportions to enhance the element of fantasy. Thus forming a relationship between the two, and provide linkage for the different areas of my research.
The collection draws upon my passion for intricate textiles, namely weave, embroidery and print as well as my knowledge in developing innovative and often surprising surface manipulation techniques.
My work aims to engage tactile encounters.
