I always want to dress women beautifully. However, pretty things bore me easily. Therefore, I play beauty with a “TWIST”.
Conflicts between texture and structure are the ways I translate the “TWIST”. I am always fascinated by unusual and odd objects and images. I love the conflict of power between surfaces and materials. The whole three year textile study is a journey of investigating and communicating with materials. I focus on embellishment and manipulation techniques; Inspiration comes from everywhere, old traditional craft skills often inspire me in my creation.
Materials play such an important role in my work. I listen to the fabric, listen carefully to what they say. All the secret whispers between different materials usually lead the way through the whole project. Like the Graduation project I have done, the whole project was about enhancement and transformation. I pick one fabric, read the message it wants to say, observe its natural texture and character and then change or enhance them into something new. It feels like I am “dressing” a fabric. The process of pleasing material is the most exciting part in my work.
