Qi Ling Lai
BA (Hons) Surface Design 2012
London College of Communication
Description
Qi Ling's specialise area are fashion textiles which is based on digitally printed and screen printed textiles.
Her work is mostly inspired by natural objects, from both of my Chinese heritage background as well as brought up in London.
Her designs are based on organic and flowing florals that come from traditional ideas combined with contemporary designs.
The use of colour is the key element in her work; she likes to reflect the colours of nature with both soft and bright hues such as hot pink and purple.
Her culture also influences her colour palette from the blue of Chinese porcelain, to the precious jade green stones used in many crafts all over China.
Her colour pallet had also been influenced by the classical artist Georgia O’Keeffe, which she had also gained the close-up styles of her floral drawings from her paintings.
