Description
Having been a print designer for fashion, I am concerned about the damage the industry
causes to the environment and would like to be more in control of what happens to my
designs and how they are produced.
I have always made use of found discarded materials and objects ‘upcycling’. I find lace intriguing for a number of reasons; from its use as a currency and
changes in social standing throughout history, properties of surveillance and
sheer abundance and longevity. Taken out of context these veils can be transformed into
delicate and refined surface-design-braille. This transformative process changes their
social standing and ethnicity.
At Chelsea I have been working on a new technique which I have called Netching
(or Netched) which is a form of etching. This process is the culmination of my fascination
with etching and masking using alternative media.
