Bold and voluptuous, the paintings present the viewer with a visual richness. With thick lashings of paint creating balanced compositions, the suggestions of figures are pushed ambiguously into sculptural forms on the canvas. Manipulating the paint to present a heightened humanistic quality, suggesting an un-familiar familiarity. Relating the sculptural layers of paint with the more subtle and modest marks creates a balanced tension between the animated foreground and the subtle background. This constant negotiation on the canvas is what gives the painting the weighty dialogue that is central to the work, presenting overlapping sets of questions with no conclusive answer.
