My "MA Interior and Spatial Design" year was about soapy installations. I started covering the toilets of the College and developed the idea within different types of places.
The concept behind the soapy-wall is the idea of "performative spaces". The performative sentence, originally described by JL. Austin, "does" something when it's uttered. Example: "I name this ship the Queen Elizabeth" or "I bet you £2 it will rain tomorrow", as soon as it's said and heard by someone, it's done. An unwritten contract is signed. It is a challenge to associate this idea of "linguistic performative" with the notion of space.
