Description
I am interested in the way in which representation, meaning and desire intertwines whilst creating gaps and links between our personal understanding of fiction and reality and also our fixed expectations of how narratives unfold. My aim is to produce spaces or worlds, which continually fluctuate between juxtaposing themes; the familiar and unfamiliar, and likewise, the awkward and the attractive. Within the films, I try to scrutinize the broader aesthetic relationship between object and gesture through sculptural interventions that draw upon my interest in the historical trajectories of female representation in lens-based media. This primarily deploys and reconfigures the heavily stylized and choreographed forms of imagery that have been prevalent in cinema and popular culture. Through pastiche, the films attempt to expose their own constructed operations, which both identify and separate the work from the very imagery it mimics.
