Lance Hewison (b. 1982) currently lives in London, UK where he recently completed a Master's in Fine Art (Merit) at Chelsea College of Arts. Before this, he earned a Bachelor's in Fine Art with honours from Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA in 2009. He also spent a summer semester in Italy, where he studied Renaissance sculpture, art history, and various printmaking techniques. These two modes of study--a theoretically driven education in London and a more classical approach in San Francisco--have become synthesised into a comprehensive, dynamic practice.
His current work is focused on the examination of the subjectivity of history and memory, along with the construction of identity, and how these concepts relate to text and images within a research driven practice. Lance works across multiple media including drawing, painting, printmaking, installation, performance, photography, video, and writing.
