"One can argue that the biological body has always needed to be augmented. Ever since we evolved as hominids and became bipedal, two limbs become manipulators,
we construct artifacts , instruments, and machines to amplify and modify the body's muscular
sensory and cerebral functions.
The body comes to be seen as no longer whole or complete without its technological prosthetics." Stelarc
In my MA Final Project I produced eight pieces comprised of: four pairs of shoes for men and four for women developed around the concept of object manipulation, displacement, deconstruction and symbolism.
With the intention of narrating an evolution, the organic textures achieved with a hand made crocodile latex skins needed to be juxtaposed with textures only achieved trough technology. And that is where Rapid Prototype and computer design were introduced to the project. At this stage the aim of the collection became clearer in wanting to narrate an evolution from analog to digital, from human to ciborg.
