Patrick Higgs uses a language derived from constructivism within his paintings to create imagery inspired by abstraction from nature. Mechanical production is implied by the paintings’ graphic and print-like appearance, yet up close there is subtle evidence of the artist’s brushwork. The tension between nature’s order and arbitrariness is demonstrated in the spatial layers that are slowly built up within each painting.
