Description
The sequence of books
In this body of work, books are the inspiration. The way books are constructed is important. The words written are significant. The shapes that books create are fundamental to Ruth’s designs. Using a 3D workshop Ruth has crafted, sculpted and moulded the books in evidence on these wallpapers. Ruth has explored how three dimensional books can be turned into two dimensional wall pieces - using no more than one image of a book. Her growing enthusiasm for photography and collage is in evidence in all of the wallpapers. The book sculptures displayed are those that have been rendered into 2D wall pieces.
Ruth Binfor combines graphic print and mixed media. Using these techniques inspire Ruth’s striking pieces. This added to her use of spray paint has created a unique and personal design style. This style is characterised by strong key line images. It contains a clear sense of order. All of which reflect her love of graphics and architecture.
Ruth has always worked with collage. Yet her recent work reflects a growing enthusium with photography. It allows her to explore a broader range of design potential. This greater sophistication has pushed boundaries between a flat surface and more constructed elements. Her latest work reflects this. She explores sculptural wallpaper pieces. These combine 2d graphic imagery alongside 3d sculpture.
The idea of interruption and dissection run concurrently through the project. Therefore Ruth wants the viewer to work out where images come from. She wants to investigate the relationship between the words and shapes created. Ruth’s portfolio reflects both her broad subject matter and media use. T – shirt print, collage, photography and digital print are all present. With outcomes that include wallpaper as well as sculpture present.
