Description
Games, structure and systems of knowledge inform my work. I try to represent the world, an attempt that will end in failure. I’m not interested in the representation of one idea into many pieces, but multiple things and multiple pieces. These things can then be placed together to form a plurality of meanings rather then just one autonomous meaning. Of course this can result in an open ended practice so an editing process is important in my work. My main practice lies within painting but I also expand into other disciplines such as print, which involves technical drawings on AutoCAD (such as building designs and diagrams), language based pieces and some 3D work. Although my practice can tend to expand out of a linear idea of painting I believe the critical side of my work is still rooted in a painting discourse and so forms a very important part of my work.
My work can be described as spiritual, and a bit cultish, but I believe in more then just a simple spiritual reading of the work. My practice deals with metaphysical concerns, but I also intend my work to be a rejection of these concerns. I believe that history has been left in a kind of desolation by the death of the meta-narrative, so although our spiritual concerns are now void, the remnants of the search for meaning and truth leaves a lot of gaps to play with. These gaps are the foundations of my work and I hope to leave my practice open enough so they can take many forms.
