Pursuing Textiles began from a fascination with surface texture and a creative desire to interpret and express it in a tactile form. With prompt technical understanding and a logical and mathematical approach to the mechanics of Knitwear, I quickly became involved with the specialism. Delighting in acting on a creative and imaginative response to a theme and the enjoyment of exploring a topic, I am able to create a personal interpretation complemented by eager experimentation. Drive for an outcome is succeeded through thorough exploration of techniques.
With a strong visualisation for colour, the combination of an oddly harmonised selection and subtle tones with varying textures features heavily throughout my work. I allow the textiles to be the subject of the garment – working with simpler shapes to allow the knit to speak for itself, often using the technique to dictate the silhouette.
I aim to progress onto a professional design level within Knitwear where individuality and quality are key. As a proactive team worker, with a hardworking and enthusiastic nature and curious to learn, I hope to widen my experience and opportunities within a professional creative environment.
