Design for Longevity in Fashion

I am a fashion futures designer specialised in design and research focused around sustainability. My design vision is to produce innovative durable design approaches combined with cross disciplinary design methods, by creating profound design processes with themes such as life cycle analysis, design thinking and circular economy.

The purpose of my work is to interrogate the practice of designers and artists working outside fashion, exploring and unlocking how their processes might inform new approaches to design for durability in fashion.

I developed three collaborative projects with a designer or artist from another discipline. Each project began with my co-collaborator writing a love letter to their most treasured garment. We then worked together to map and analyse their design process through a series of interviews establishing our points of connection and divergence. Together we created a series of speculative prototypes illuminating how design for durability comes to life through an interdisciplinary process.

The outcomes of the projects suggest material and non-material solutions, exploring physical and emotional durability and the power of design to embed both utility and meaning in an object.
