Yuco Kamiyama
A/W 2011 MOMO collection
A unisex collection with knitwear and woven garments, inspired by a children novel written by Michael Ende , ‘MOMO.
The main idea is ‘A GIRL IN A MEN’S JACKET’, which came from a style of Momo, a orphan girl in the novel, wears oversized tatty patched men’s jacket. I love the relaxed feeling of the style as well as the genderless look and the youthfulness.
Specifically, In terms of the textile, I translated classical suit fabrics, such as herring-bone, pin stripe, or hound-tooth check. Most of the main yarns are very tweedy, this is because I am always pursuing something warm and textured look.
Used special techniques of felt-making, which attached wool onto a fabric with some bits of colourful yarns, then stitched as quilts. Flocking on knit fabrics makes the fabric beautiful gradation of velvet-like texture.
The multi-coloured leggings and socks make the style even more special.
